On the second leg of our European adventure, Emily and I took the chunnel on over to London! We stayed there a week before returning to the good ‘ol USA! While there, we visited my grandmother’s godson, Sebastian, and her dear friend, Zofia. Emily and I stayed at Sebastian’s flat and Zo took us around town during the day to take in all the sights and sounds.
We did everything there was to do and more while in the city. Zo would pick me and Em up in the morning and we’d head out to get a bit of breakfast with her in the Chelsea area. She took us to the cutest and most quaint cafes with the best food and relaxing atmospheres! And she got us tickets to Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, The Musical! It was premiering at Theatre Royal Drury Lane and hasn’t even come to the United States yet. But when it does, it’s a must-see. Happy, light-hearted, and fun…this musical is perfect for both adults and children. There’s no way we would have anywhere near as much fun as we did if it weren’t for Zo!
We also walked in the same steps at Princess Kate and Prince Wills at Westminster Abbey on their wedding day, ate fish and chips at pubs, and saw London at night on the London Eye. We went to the V&A Museum and gawked at the beautiful art and statues, said hello to the Queen at Buckingham Palace, stood in awe of the Crown Jewels at the Tower of London, and went shopping at Covent Gardens.
We were also able to go to the women’s EUFA Champion’s League Final at Chelsea Stadium-this was so fun for me to go to the actual stadium in real life considering I had seen it so many times when watching Chelsea games on TV. (Big thanks to our friend Daniel for getting us the tickets so last minute!!) And who can go to London without going to Harrods? No one! Emily and I took Harrods by storm and waltzed in and out of all of the impressive food halls wondering if we could take home one of everything. They have every type of food and sweet imaginable. Then we went to the upper floors and looked at all the shoes that we one day hoped we can have in our own closets.
However, by far one of my favorite things I did in London was having high tea at Fortnum and Mason’s. High tea proved everything and more that I imagined it to be. From the dainty tea sandwiches to the scones with jam and clotted cream (YUM), everything was fantastic. Not to mention, the infinitely long tea list and delicious desserts, high tea was incredible and so much fun. The Fortnum and Mason tea room was erected in honor of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the color palette is tiffany blue, gold, and crisp white. Everything is so clean and so English. If you do anything while in London, make sure you have high tea. And I highly recommend F&M…but please make sure to book ahead of time. The reservations fill up quickly.
London was incredible and the people are delightful. Everything we did in London was lovely and I can’t wait to go back to visit Zo and Sebastian again! I miss them already! Xx.
With much love,
Brinkley
