Europe Summer 2015

Woah. I know, I know…I’ve been MIA. But the good news, I’m here now. I’m writing, loving life, and smiling and laughing A LOT. All good things.

This past May, I went to (1) Barcelona, Spain, (2) Nice, France (and the French Riviera), (3) Amsterdam and (4) London with my friend Glory! It was so much fun. Amsterdam definitely ranks up there as one of my favorite European cities. But my goodness, I just love Europe in general: the food, the people, the food, the atmosphere, the food…all so lovely. But enough words, here’s the good stuff: pics!

London, England

‘Ello, mates! We’ve made it to the last post for my European summer travels this summer. Rome, Venice, Vienna, Salzburg, Munich and now London! But what a happy end it will be! After a short flight from Munich, we arrived  in London, England! My favorite place in the world! This was my third trip to England. It was Emily’s second and Rachel’s first. Thankfully, Rachel loves to explore a city by walking around and delving into the locals things to do versus hitting up all the English tourist attractions. Been there, done that. So basically, Emily and I just got to show her our favorite spots in the city and find some new ones as well! We’re like locals, I tell you, locals. We wish. Brace yourselves, though, this post has a million and one pictures because…well, just because it’s quite necessary! Enjoy!

We started our time in London with a trip to Harrod’s. I love Harrods. There are so many people filing in and out of all the rooms and floors…it’s quite easy to get lost. Although everyone working there are always so cordial and happy to give directions. Thank goodness. We picked up some delicious desserts and roamed around taking it all in. Oh! And Rachel had her first ever French macaron! Thank you, Ladurée! She fell in love with them, duh. [Side note: still trying to perfect my macaron recipe, more on that later though.]

The next day we headed over to Fortnum and Mason for high tea. Never fails to be one of my favorite parts of the trip. Everything is so dainty and girly…and quintessentially British. Win, win, win! After tea, we were in a huge food coma and decided to walk towards Westminster Abbey to say hello to Big Ben. He was looking mighty fine so we had to take some selfies with him. After that, we headed to Covent Garden for some shopping.

Throughout our time in London we had the chance to have dinner at The Hurlingham Club with one of our dear friends from London. For those of you who don’t know, The Hurlingham Club is the most exclusive sports and social club located in the center of the city. So, Rachel, Emily, and I put our posh pants on for the night and imagined we were dining with royals. Darlings, we walked through the gardens and sashayed through the beautiful cricket fields. We had the best time acting all proper. Only the best for us Americans, you see. [If you’re reading this Zo, thanks again for taking us! We had the most amazing time with you! xoxo.]

We spent four days in London and it was so relaxing. Wandering around the city knowing generally where things are located was fabulous. Finding new little pockets with precious flats and immaculately dressed people was lovely. I didn’t want to leave! But my wardrobe proved to have more dirty clothes than clean and my family was greatly missed. Until next time Londontown, cheerio!

Like I mentioned earlier, if you hadn’t read about my previous trips to London, read about them here and here!

Tea and Crumpets

High tea in London has got to be one of my favorite things ever. Last summer, I had high tea at Fortnum and Mason with Emily and it was by far one of the highlights of our trip. (Read all about last years London shenanigans here and here.)

Well, today, my mind started thinking about tea and crumpets and clotted cream and scones and tea sandwiches…drool. So, instead of finishing my marketing notes, I decided to look up all the best hotels to enjoy high tea in London, naturally. I’m traveling back to London this coming May and need to figure out where I’m going satisfy my high tea addiction in an utterly British fashion. Basically, marketing can wait.

But speaking of fashion…I found a high tea that stood out from the rest. Why? Because at Prêt-à-Portea at The Berkeley, they serve a completely designer-themed high tea! Prêt-à-Portea is inspired by the themes and colors of the fashion world and the menu is transformed every six months to follow the changing seasons in fashion. I MEAN, HOW COOL IS THAT?

To check out the latest fashion inspired menu, click here. They’re currently serving a Burberry Prorsum heart patterned ginger biscuit trench with caramel icing…swoon.

EVERYONE STOP AND LOOK AT THE ROYAL WEDDING INSPIRED AFTERNOON TEA…I’m dying. I love this. Complete with a dessert featuring Princess Beatrice’s Hat, I mean, yes.

Prêt-à-Portea is definitely on my “high tea radar” (if that’s even a thing…?). Ugh, get me a cup of earl grey with a sugar cube and a dash of milk, please. Or a first class flight to London, I’ll take either.

Cheerio for now,

On the second leg of our European adventure, Emily and I took the chunnel on over to London! We stayed there a week before returning to the good ‘ol USA! While there, we visited my grandmother’s godson, Sebastian, and her dear friend, Zofia. Emily and I stayed at Sebastian’s flat and Zo took us around town during the day to take in all the sights and sounds.

We did everything there was to do and more while in the city. Zo would pick me and Em up in the morning and we’d head out to get a bit of breakfast with her in the Chelsea area. She took us to the cutest and most quaint cafes with the best food and relaxing atmospheres! And she got us tickets to Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, The Musical! It was premiering at Theatre Royal Drury Lane and hasn’t even come to the United States yet. But when it does, it’s a must-see. Happy, light-hearted, and fun…this musical is perfect for both adults and children. There’s no way we would have anywhere near as much fun as we did if it weren’t for Zo!

We also walked in the same steps at Princess Kate and Prince Wills at Westminster Abbey on their wedding day, ate fish and chips at pubs, and saw London at night on the London Eye. We went to the V&A Museum and gawked at the beautiful art and statues, said hello to the Queen at Buckingham Palace, stood in awe of the Crown Jewels at the Tower of London, and went shopping at Covent Gardens.

We were also able to go to the women’s EUFA Champion’s League Final at Chelsea Stadium-this was so fun for me to go to the actual stadium in real life considering I had seen it so many times when watching Chelsea games on TV. (Big thanks to our friend Daniel for getting us the tickets so last minute!!) And who can go to London without going to Harrods? No one! Emily and I took Harrods by storm and waltzed in and out of all of the impressive food halls wondering if we could take home one of everything. They have every type of food and sweet imaginable. Then we went to the upper floors and looked at all the shoes that we one day hoped we can have in our own closets.

However, by far one of my favorite things I did in London was having high tea at Fortnum and Mason’s. High tea proved everything and more that I imagined it to be. From the dainty tea sandwiches to the scones with jam and clotted cream (YUM), everything was fantastic. Not to mention, the infinitely long tea list and delicious desserts, high tea was incredible and so much fun. The Fortnum and Mason tea room was erected in honor of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the color palette is tiffany blue, gold, and crisp white. Everything is so clean and so English. If you do anything while in London, make sure you have high tea. And I highly recommend F&M…but please make sure to book ahead of time. The reservations fill up quickly.

London was incredible and the people are delightful. Everything we did in London was lovely and I can’t wait to go back to visit Zo and Sebastian again! I miss them already! Xx.

With much love,

Brinkley
