Fun and formal. Formal and fun.

This past weekend, all the Pi Phi’s and Kappa’s came together in our best attire for our joint annual formal that is “formally” known as Monmouth. It’s called Monmouth because both Pi Beta Phi and Kappa Kappa Gamma were formed  on April 28, 1867 at Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois. History, folks.

Monmouth was this past Saturday night and it was so much fun! From taking a party bus all around Austin to packing a nice restaurant for dinner full of college kids to dancing the night away with my date, it was a wonderful night. And throw in some socializing with all my gal pals to say they looked pretty or their shoes were cute, you have my Saturday night in a nutshell.

But as for the details: I really never want to wear a pair of heels again. My feet still hurt from my insanely cute pair of glitter kate spade New York heels. Beauty is pain. No pain, no game. I still love them though, no worries. My roommates will see me wearing them around my apartment to break them in…imagine me in my pajama’s with a pair of 4-inch glittery heals, well, that’s me. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

There was an 80s cover band that was jamming the whole night and needless to say, I, along with everyone else, jammed with them. They were so great. Actually, they were more than great. They were fantastic.

There was a photo booth and face painters–which was so cute–but my date and I were too busy having fun to take time out of our night to wait in line for that stuff. Four face painters plus 750 people make for some pretty long lines…

It’s so fun seeing many of my friends dressed up. They looked so pretty in their dresses and heels. And all the young gentlemen looked wonderful were in tuxedos and bow ties. And you should know something about me…I’m quite the sucker for bow ties.

And finally, I got home at 3 in the morning. I had the best night’s sleep of my life. Lazy Sunday for real.

I was decked in kate spade New York for the night. Both my dress and my shoes were Kate Spade. You guessed it, Kate Spade is my absolute favorite. And then my pearl necklace and bracelet (on loan from Emily, thank you!) were from J.Crew. I know she let me borrow them but I think I need the necklace in my own jewelry box. You can’t have too many pearls… #rationalize

Craving: “Healthy” Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies

Kendall (roommate and best friend!) and I took to the challenge of baking a “healthier” cookie. And we succeeded. These chocolate oatmeal cookies with chocolate drizzle are chewy and soft and delicious.

Kendall runs cross country for UT and this recipe came from The Runner’s World Cookbook that she got over Christmas! It has tons of wonderful recipes that combine interesting flavors and healthy ingredients to make wonderful foods…but more importantly, desserts.

This is Kendall! This is a picture of us at the UT-Baylor football game where it was 20 degrees, rainy, and oh so COLD. We couldn’t feel our toes. But on the plus side, at least we looked cute. Am I right? Am I right? Oh! And the jackets we’re wearing are our T-jackets we earned from Texas Athletics after lettering in our first season as a Texas student-athlete. As you know, I play soccer and Kendall runs cross country. Hook ’em Horns!

Back to cookies…

Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies

  • 6 tablespoons butter (room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 3 tablespoons dark honey (such as Buckwheat)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • pinch of salt
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups quick-cooking oats
  • 3/4 cup dark or semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.

In your electric mixer, combine the butter, brown sugar, white sugar, and honey. Beat on high speed for 1 minute until the mixture is light and fluffy. Add the eggs and vanilla. Mix until combined. Add the flour, whole wheat flour, baking soda, salt, and cocoa to the wet mixture. Mix until combines and try to not make a mess…hehe. Finally, turn in the oats, chocolate, and nuts.

Spoon the batter in 1 tablespoon mounds onto the greased baking sheet and bake for 10 to 12 minutes. Drizzle with some melted chocolate and voila! Yum!

On Trend: Stella&Dot Sutton Necklace

One necklace that can be worn five different ways?! Is this real life? Serious snaps and claps for Stella&Dot.

But basically the most important thing is that when looking at the price, divide it by 5 so that you can justify the purchase. All about the justification. My jewelry box (more like boxes) is already overflowing with statement necklaces but…but…I mean I don’t have this one! Woe is me.

Hugs and kisses (just like the model above) for the Sutton Necklace!

Adore: Mad Hatter

Texas weather has got me thinking about summer (80 degrees and sunny, hello). But when I look at pictures from New York Fashion Week, I find myself wishing for Texas’s “cold” temperatures to come back for a little longer.

One thing is for sure though, whatever weather, you’ll find me obsessing over hats. Wide brimmed, beret, beach, baseball, beanie, floppy, or fedora. I love hats. I love them all. Even while writing this, I’m wearing a Vineyard Vines baseball cap to hide my crazy hair for the day (in my defense, we have soccer practice in the mornings from 9-11 and then I go straight to class for the whole day…no time to shower, sorry to the people around me…).

I find hats beyond chic. I wish they were more of a “thing” in the States. When I go overseas, every other person has one on….but honestly, I make it my “own” thing. Who cares what other people think or do when it comes to fashion. #youdoyou

My mom always adorned me in hats when I was younger but I think my true love affair with hats started when I was given my first beret from my Grandma Bevy my junior year of high school before going to Paris and London over Christmas break. And then soon after, the Royal Wedding just blew my mind with all the wonderful (and not so wonderful **cough Princess Beatrice cough**) hats. Kate Middleton might be the Duchess of Cambridge but she’s without a doubt the Queen of Hats.

From then on, the rest is history…

And sure, hats can be tricky to pull off. But here’s some inspiration for you:

Craving: Slutty Brownies, Valentines Edition

Happy Valentine’s all you little love bugs!

What better way to celebrate Valentine’s than with chocolate? Chocolate for breakfast. Chocolate for lunch. Chocolate for Dinner. And finally, chocolate for dessert today!

I posted a recipe to make this “Slutty Brownies” a couple of months ago but today, I updated them a bit. The recipe is exactly the same but this time, I added some colorful candies on the top to add a pop of color!

The story behind me making this monstrous chocolate chip cookie, Oreo, and brownie baking concoction is somewhat a funny story:

One of my sweet soccer teammates wanted to bake these brownies for her boyfriend! Well, let’s just say she isn’t the avid baker, to say the least. That’s where I step in. It started as me offering my baking expertise to her while she baked everything. Then, over the course of the conversation, I thought it better for me to take the position as head chef. End the end, I baked it all this morning (while she was at class) and she’s taking all the credit. But I want her too! I just want to be the mysterious baker behind the scenes. This day isn’t about me and my baking skills, it’s about her impressing her boyfriend and them enjoying the sweet (and very rich) treat! But now I’m thinking I should have made two batches of these brownies because my other teammates are going to be jealous when I deliver them to her at practice…uh oh. Ha!

I think these brownies turned out great! And while they look good, they taste even better!

Adore: Fashion and Food

First, the fashion part.

I posted this bag as part of my most recent post, This or That, as a link. But I just think this bag deserves a picture. 3.1 Phillip Lim, calf hair, and polka dots. What more could a girl ask for? Someone please give this to me for Valentine’s Day so I know the love is real. Any takers? Anyone, anyone? **silence**cricket noises**more silence**

Now on to food. These Dark Chocolate Raspberry Pie Bars look out of this world amazing. I need to make these, pronto. NOM. NOM. NOM. I’ll make these little guys (eventually) and let you know how they turn out!

Dark Chocolate Raspberry Pie Bars

Finally, fashion and food…my two favorite things in the world. Hehe. My friend, Cristina, tweeted this link and it was too good not to share. Bon Appétit put together a collection of looks from New York Fashion Week and put them side by side the foods they remind them of, it’s too funny. You’ll get a laugh out of it. Ever thought of a huge white mink coat resembling’ll see now. I will never look at some looks the same, oh well.

Speaking of mink…one last thing.

My dad sent me this picture in an email the other day and quite simply put, this hat and scarf, are fabulous. Totally fabi. (that’s my friend’s and I’s chic way of shortening fabulous. We’re making it a “thing”…Just go with it. Embrace it. Love it.)

I feel like this miiiiiight be a little much for me just walking around campus…UT Austin is not ready for this sort of fashion statement. Imagine the looks I would get, L.O.L. Well, I might just have to take a quick trip to Sochi to support Team USA. I mean, come on, does that fur not scream Russia? The answer is yes. Yes it does.  Off to the Olympics, it’s a must in the name of fashion. And America.

But on a more serious note, this look is one of the many stunning looks for Badgley Mischka’s collection from this past week at NY Fashion Week. The collection is stunning and I’m sure we’ll be seeing some of these looks on the red carpet in the very near future.

Well this post is somewhat all over the place but ya know, go with the flow.

Wishlist: Valentine’s Day Gifts

I really love Valentine’s Day. I look at it as a extra special day where I get to let all my wonderful friends know how much they mean to me and how much I love them! While I might not be dating anyone right now, that doesn’t mean I (as well as the friends I’ll be celebrating it with) can’t have a lovely evening…especially because February 14th is on a Friday! Be it a girly romantic comedy with plenty of popcorn and candy, a dinner date somewhere yummy and hip, or just spending it doing random stuff around Austin, I promise you it’ll be filled with lots of laughter and fun!
I put together a little collage of fun Valentine’s Day gifts that I particularly adore. And I’m sure your girlfriend, girl friends, mommy, sister, best friend, or anyone who loves a pop of pink and red will cherish all these gifts as well. Ranging from $8 to $975 (sorry ladies, those Valentino red spike shoes will cost a pretty penny…but OMG they’re worth it right?!), there’s a little something for everyone.

Happy [early] Valentine’s Day!

Valentines Day Goodies

On Trend: Karen Walker

If it were up to me, I would have as many sunglasses as I do shoes. But I think that would quite simply be ridiculous considering my love of shoes is not normal.

Karen Walker eyewear. Every since I took notice of her last year, I’ve simply been in love with her sunglasses. Over the top, unique, and fun, these glasses scream…well, me. ha! If I had my pick, I’d snatch up the Karen Walker ‘Super Duper’ sunglasses in tortoiseshell. To die for. My absolute fav.

All of my favorite bloggers have a pair (or two). So, in order for me to elevate my blogging game, I might need to think about investing in a pair…

Emilie Froyland, of Fashion Conspiracy, is a dear friend of mine at UT. Originally from Norway, she is one of my most stylish friends and I particularly envy all of the wonderful purses she owns. And Emilie is always dressed up for class, no matter what…something I strive to do, but sometimes lack of sleep and soccer practices seem to prevent that from happening. Stay so chic, Emilie. Xx.

Craving: Valentine’s Day Sweet Treats

If it were up to me, I would put school on hold and just spend all the days leading up to Valentine’s just baking. Baking 24/7. But unfortunately, I don’t think that would go over well with my teachers and all, no?

I have so many ideas for fun Valentine’s Day treats but simply not enough time and energy to do it. So, instead, I take to looking at Pinterest and drool at all the people who do have more time… #jealous

Here are some of the best Valentine’s Treats I’ve found:

ImageKiss Cookies

(These cookies are like my kiss cookies I made last week except Valentine’s Day themed!)

ImageValentine’s Day Wafers

ImageChocolate Dipped Pretzels

(Chocolate and pretzels, easily two of my favorite things. Yum.)

ImageWhite Chocolate Bites

Soft M&M Cookies

Cutout Cookies

(Shoutout to you, mom. I know you LOVE these type of cookies.)

Oh my my my. My mouth is drooling but I have to go to my internship, class, soccer, pi phi chapter meeting, tutoring…woe is me. No time to dilly dally, unfortunately. All I want to do is bakeeeee. (Sorry for whining, y’all, hehe.) Have a great day!
